200 Meter Radius
Ryerson University, 2007

The 200 Meter Radius series began as a simple exercise. I had decided to make a set of pocket size guides to some of Toronto neighbourhoods I found interesting. While exploring these areas in preparation for my work, I realized that I am walking in spiral pattern and moving towards the centre of a large circle.

I realized that these pocket size books had the potential to be more than guides and could be used to simulate the experience of being in a place and navigation through it.

I selected neighbourhoods of around three and four city blocks and began to systematically photograph views from each end of every street and place them in sequence in respect to a road map.

The result was two separate books each illustrating one of the unique residential areas of Toronto. Each book is titled after the geographic co ordinance of its centre. The following images are page spreads made from one of the books.
