Logistics
Image Arts Gallery – November 12 to 16, 2007
The subject for many of my photographs is modern infrastructure and its relationship to the land. Humankind’s dependency on the systems which support its lifestyle is growing exponentially and everyday more and more energy and money is invested into networks which serve to maintain pockets of artificial habitats as diverse as the needs of those who occupy them. Today energy is delivered to millions of households through sophisticated network of generators and power lines, clean water and natural gas reached countless outlets throughout urban and rural areas, and all types of waste is systematically collected and disposed of away from its source.
An important contributing factor in the maintenance our lifestyle is logistics. Without a functioning transportation system many of the basic amenities within our daily lives would cease to function. Like many common element of our daily life, logistics tends to be overlooked at times, but the vital role it plays towards our survival is undeniable. In this body of photographs I am trying to address this issue by depicting the relationship between this support network and the way in which it is accommodated by the land.
I made this body of work to express the importance of logistics as one of the supporting elements in our daily life and in doing so I found the incorporation of other natural and man made elements of the land inevitable. I feel that the images in this collection depict my interaction with the subject of my photograph and convey my intimate observation of this vital infrastructure.
